VISTA-15P gives you the. A variety of wireless remote. Is anyone using this security system and the VAM? We are building a new home and the VISTA-20P comes with the home. I was looking into a home automation (HA) system, like the Mi Casa Verde VeraLite Home Controller. Would the VAM do the same as the Veralite? Can I use the Veralite as my main HA and integrate the VAM & VISTA into the Veralite? Thanks for the help. Ken Mine is sitting here in the box. ![]() I hope to have it set up in about 2 weeks. Alarm first though! (Using the Vista 21ip panel with the VAM.). Hooked my VAM up this morning in demo mode. Just put 12v DC to it is all and got it configured and even talking to my Honeywell zwave thermostat. I've read some firmware versions on the VAM units have email capabilities as well and you can use it for self alarm monitoring. Mine does have the place to setup email. I've poked around a bit too so see if its internal web server can be hacked. My thought was that it might be neat to be able to customize the interface a bit more with custom backgrounds and to make it scalable. As it is the web interface is sized to fit a Tuxedo Touch which I expected since it is essentially a Tuxedo Touch without the built in screen. Once I had it on my network with a static IP I tried poking it at a bit. It is running an FTP server but nothing gets shown. So I tried connecting to it via SSH, no go, then tried telnet and bam! No login though. Not idea why but I tried root without a password. These are configured running an embedded Linux with no password on the root account! If you are not aware, this is full unrestricted access to the underlying system. I typed passwd and gave root a password. Then tired FTP again using root and my new password. Woohoo - full unrestricted FTP access to the VAM now too. This being said - YES you can port forward the VAM through your firewall/router so you can access it remotely (or you can pay for Total Connect service). But with these things having a wide open root account I'd strongly recommend against this. Its probably not even good that I'm positing this as Honeywell will surely catch on and lock these down in future updates. I do have automatic updates turned off on mine though as I like to poke at things. I also have a commercial grade Check Point firewall and use secure encrypted VPN for remote access so I'm not worried about it being exposed. So I poked a bit more to find the web server files. Typically these are in the /usr/htdocs/ folder. While this folder exists it appears to be an unconfigured apache install. So after a bit more digging I've found the following. Its pretty much the Tuxedo firmware, it even has all the voice command stuff that the Tuxedos have in there. The webserver however is a self contained thing. Honeywell is using the Barracuda web/application server from Realtimelogic paired up with their SharkSSL. The way Barracuda works is Honeywell develops the web pages for the device along with all of the graphics and most other functions using the Barracuda development software which then compiles everything into one big program that contains the web server itself as well as all of the web pages and everything. So far as I can tell as of now, you cannot access or get to the web pages themselves since they are not in the file system. They are in memory loaded as part of the Barracuda web server. Anyways probably a lot more than your wanted (or needed) to know. Right now I have a Vista 20P panel up here and I will shortly go into the panel programming to set up the AUI ECP address so that the VAM will talk to the panel and get it all hooked up. I also have a newer panel, Vista 128 BP Turbo which I'm eventually going to replace the 20P with.
